The greatest danger from a wildfire is flying embers. Well-seasoned firewood catches fire easily. Just what you want it to do in your fireplace or stove BUT not outside next to your house. Store it above the ground to protect it from moisture and in a covered container to protect it from catching flying embers. Defensible space guidelines recommend that firewood be 30 feet from your home, and even further if your home is on a slope. It is best if you can store it on a concrete or fireproof slab. You don’t want grass that could ignite growing under it. Keep it off your deck!
